Lord Clement-Jones

Lord Clement-Jones was Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (2017-18) and is Co-Chair and Co-Founder of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence.  He was for many years Deputy Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on China. He is an officer of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Digital Inclusion and Intellectual Property.

Tim was an external member of the Council of University College London and Chair of its Audit Committee from 2012 to 2017 and from 2017 to 2025 Chair of the governing Council of Queen Mary University of London. He is Chair of the Board of the Authors Licensing Collecting Society (ALCS)

Tim was made CBE for political services in 1988 and a life peer in 1998. Until July 2004 he was the Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson in the House of Lords and thereafter until 2010, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on Culture, Media and Sport, in the House of Lords. He is now the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Science Innovation and Technology in the House of Lords.

Until 2018 Tim was a Partner of the global law firm DLA Piper and Head of UK Government Affairs. Former positions held include London Managing Partner from 2011 to 2016, Chairman of its China and Middle East Desks, International Business Relations Partner and Co-Chairman of Global Government Relations. He is now a consultant to the fim on AI Regulation and Policy. Until 2025 was Chair of Ombudsman Services Limited-now Trust Alliance Group-, the not for profit, independent ombudsman service that provides dispute resolution for communications and energy utlities. He is a co-founder of the OECD’s Global Parliamentaery Network on AI.

Tim is President of Ambitious About Autism (formerly Treehouse), the national autism education and skills charity  and its former Chairman (2001-2008).
